My Brilliant Journey: From Nigeria to Rockport School, Co. Down
Meet Jesse. Jesse is 14 years old and is a boarder at Rockport School in Northern Ireland. Jesse has travelled from his home in Abuja in Nigeria to study in the UK.
“When I got to Rockport and looked out of my bedroom window and saw the sea, I had a feeling that my brilliant journey was about to begin!” says Jesse.
“My dad has business connections with a company in Northern Ireland, so he had travelled here on a number of occasions and was keen that I would benefit from the education at Rockport School’” explains Jesse. “The school has a warm family atmosphere and there’s always lots going on, I’ve already enjoyed so many more opportunities at boarding school than were available to me back home.”
“I was a bit shy when I first arrived but the staff and the other students were so welcoming and friendly, I soon felt much more confident.”
The beauty of Northern Ireland countryside and Rockport’s enviable location on the shores of Belfast Lough is something that has definitely not been lost on Jesse.
“Northern Ireland is a beautiful country with so many amazing places to visit, I loved going to see the famous Giant’s Causeway on the North Antrim coast with a school trip. Also climbing to the top of Cave Hill when we were making the ‘Our Brilliant Journey’ film for Boarding NI was also great fun…I could see the whole of the city of Belfast from up there!”
Rockport School is an independent school for 2-18 year olds situated on the shoreline of Belfast Lough. Rockport prides itself on a commitment to the individual child and putting the interests of each child first. Boarding has always been at the heart of Rockport and every effort is made to ensure that the children enjoy a home away from home when they are in school.
